Barb and Antoinio created the Seica company in 1986 with Antonio’s invention of the S20 which is a machine that tests electronic boards found in all kinds of machines from washing machines to satellites.
Now they have a variety of machines from small to large with customers all over the world. Their grown children and spouses work there as well as over 300 people world wide. This includes my brother and nephew who service the machines in the United States.
There are 5 Seica buildings in Strambino and one in the nearby town of Romano. It was very interesting to visit and see the changes from when we were here last. Very impressive indeed and if I wasn’t committed to being retired, I would have submitted my application!
We tagged along on a grocery trip to Ivrea and discovered the very reasonable wine prices. Actually food in general seems to be the same or even cheaper than in the States.
We wrapped up the day with a pizza party. The main level of Barb’s home has a pizza room aptly named because there is a wood burning pizza oven in it. The oven was there when they bought that part of the building. The previous owner did not live there but built this room in the 80’s for a wine making/pizza party venue. After buying the property, Barb and Antonio had to do a major remodel to make it a bigger home than the space that they had next door. Now Francesco, Daniela and the baby live in their previous apartment. It was very nice to see them every day because they could just pop over for a visit!
The pizza making was a family affair with Daniela and Anna making the pizzas and Valerio baking them to perfection in the pizza oven. Of course our part involved the quality control and consumption! Needless to say, we never go to bed hungry..
