Day 8 Sri Lanka
Food For Thought..and Talk!
Our hotel has an awesome breakfast buffet with many choices - traditional Sri Lankan food, pastries, fruit, pancakes, waffles, etc. My favorite that I remember from the last trip are Hoppers. A bowl is made in a special pan out of some kind of batter and a fried egg is made on the bottom. You also have a choice of other toppings as well.
After a leisurely breakfast, we met up with Dave, Thilini, Salani, and
Aminda in the hotel lobby and met a few of their friends who arrived from Australia. You will see from this post that most of our time is spent eating and drinking! However, it is nice to have the time to just chat and catch up…so much nicer in person than remotely!
After a while, we made it to an Italian restaurant for lunch and then..surprise(!) Thilini whisked me off to do more shopping. Don and Dave were on a mission to find shoelaces for Don’s dress shoes. Apparently he didn’t realize that our puppy had chewed on them previously and they were hanging on by a thread! This turned out to be quite the mission and they ended up getting them for free. Having failed to find packaged shoelaces anywhere in the mall, they ended up in a shoe store. After finding out that Don just needed the laces, the salesman pulled some laces out of shoes that were for sale and just handed them to him! Good Karma will be headed his way!
The scariest part of the day was when Thilini had me cross the street to the hotel. Our driver stopped on the wrong side so before I knew it, I was following her lead and braving the traffic. Never again!
Later we found the Hangala lounge near our hotel where Dave and Don could smoke cigars…again…Don brought many since they are not sold in Sri Lanka.
To wrap up the night we ended up at a Korean BBQ restaurant which was very good. An end to a laid back day before the big wedding day tomorrow!
Nice ... was wonderful to have both of you here; it really did help relieve some of the pre-wedding ceremony stress that was building up as the clock was relentless winding down to the appointed time and Salani and I kept thinking of more an more things that needed to be done! LOL
